eSwatini: The Spotlight music competition reaches top-10 stage
Ten upcoming musicians from eSwatini will compete to secure a chance to perform at the MTN Swaziland Music Awards (SWAMAs) in Mbabane on 7 December.
The competition follows a July call for upcoming musicians to audition for The Spotlight talent search in the country.
Apart from performing at the SWAMAs, the winner will get to perform alongside South African rapper AKA and local artists Velemseni, Mozaik, Nomalungelo, Sands and Mdura at the MTN Auditorium in Ezulwini on 23 November.
The winner will also receive a recording contract, a Nando's meal once a month for a year, MTN data for a year and a Kia Picanto with insurance cover for a year with Momentum. The organisers said the prizes for the two runners-up would be announced in due course.
The 10 contestants who will battle in out at the MTN Auditorium this Saturday are Madoda Bongani_JR Nsibandze, Rina Mthethwa, Nontsikelelo Dlamini, Nompendulo Nsibandze, Eyethu Gama, Nsika Nsizakalo Mazibuko, Lindelwa Tsabedze, Khethokuhle Sibandze, Namisa Nhlengetfwa and Melusi Mndzebele.
Three participants will be eliminated this Saturday, followed by two on 9 and 16 November. The remaining three contenders will compete for top honours at The Spotlight Shutdown Concert on 23 November.
“The Spotlight Shutdown Concert will mark the end of the Season 1 of The Spotlight launched by MTN eSwatini in July,” MTN eSwatini said. “The first season of the event registered about 849 applicants during the nationwide audition tour. About 68 golden tickets were given away by The Spotlight judges who went in search for the last group of contestants that made the top 30 finalists from the pool of 68 contestants."
