Fancy Gadam fills Ghana arena
Ghanaian artist Fancy Gadam performed to an estimated audience of 6 000 at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra on 26 November.
The Vodafone Ghana Music Award winner had announced an intention to fill up the venue, an idea springing up around the continent since the successful fill-up gigs by South African rapper Cassper Nyovest.
The Tamale-based act was joined by other Ghanaian music stars including rave of the moment Ebony and Rudebwoy. Also in attendance were Ghana’s minister of Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture Catherine Ablema Afeku; deputy minister of Tourism Creative Arts and Culture Dr Ziblim Iddi; and the minister of Local Government and Rural Development Hajia Alima Mahama.
Born Mujahid Ahmed Bello in Hausa Zongo Tamale, Fancy Gadam first found fame with the song 'Kalipo' off his 2010 album Kalipo. He's influences include Nigerian popstars Banky W, Davido and Wizkid.
For the concert, Fancy Gadam drew on his popularity among his compatriots living in the three regions in northern Ghana. “I can confidently say there is no artist in Ghana who is bigger than me in the northern region of Ghana,” he once said. The morning after the concert, the Ghanaian star took to Facebook to share his joy at the success.
“This is what happened last night,” he posted along with a photo of the filled stadium. “The Bokum Boxing Arena in Accra Ghana sold out concert. My fans I bow down for y’all. The love y’all showing me made me shed tears onstage last night. Share this let the world know a new religion is here to stay and that’s #GadamNation.”
