Gambia’s Myk Jayda and Lady Ganssiry release debut projects
For two Gambian artists, debut projects are the rage. While Myk Jayda will be releasing his album, Lady Ganssiry has released her first single.
On March 31 at Jama Hall at Kairaba Beach Hotel in Banjul, Myk Jayda will launch his debut album No Guts No Glory. An album of 12 tracks, it is produced by Live Music Records.
Born Alieu Jobe, the rising hip-hop star told local media about the title of his album, saying it is because of his belief in himself, his self-confidence and persistence in the sense that winners don’t quit.
“I consider myself the best in what I do," he said. "I am sure that my album will make a major impact in The Gambian music industry."
The 28-year-old rapper noted that Gambian music industry is at a lower level compared to other neighbouring African countries but said with a more structured space, the industry will begin a rapid elevation. He assured fans that No Guts No Glory will be one of its kind and full of great songs and positive massages. He also urged his colleagues to be focussed and to believe in themselves.
An artist that might benefit from Myk Jayda's encouragement is Lady Ganssiry. The UK-based Gambian act recently released her debut single. By way of introduction, she put up a post on her Facebook page. "I am a born Gambian and also an upcoming artist," she wrote. "My artist name is Lady Ganssiry. I am inshalla due to release my first single called 'Burr Yalla'. It will also be available on YouTube soon...Stay tune and stay blessed."
Lady Ganssiry was born in Kaur Wharf Town in the Gambia and later moved to the UK. There she developed her singing. She told local Gambian publication The Voice Vibes that singing in her own way is bringing her closer to her African Roots. “Through my life experience, I came to strongly believe that God has always been watching over me and been on my side at all times,” she said.
