The plaque was presented to the artist in Ghana by Audiomack vice president of marketing and brand strategy Jason Johnson and director of brand and media partnerships Charlotte Bwana.
“We have been fans of Black Sherif since his first upload on the platform in 2020, and it is remarkable to see his growth over the last two years,” Johnson said. “We are immensely proud to have been part of his development into a remarkable Afrobeats artist, hence our celebration of this remarkable milestone with him and we hope to celebrate more milestones in the future. At Audiomack, we are committed to pushing African music forward and recognising artists who put in the effort to create good music is just one of the many different ways we aim to reinforce that commitment.”
Emerging onto Ghana’s mainstream in 2019 with the release of ‘Cry For Me’, Black Sherif has gone on to become one of Ghana’s biggest artists. He is behind chart-topping singles like ‘First Sermon’ and ‘Kwaku The Traveller’, as well as his debut album The Villain I Never Was.
Another Ghanaian act, Stonebwoy, was honoured for becoming the first artist from the country to surpass over 100 million streams on the DSP last week.
Audiomack, which currently reaches more than 20 million monthly users globally, says the gesture aligns with its “artist-first” outlook and is dedicated to honouring African music artists and promoting the Afrobeats genre extensively.
Meanwhile, Black Sherif surpassed 100 million streams on Boomplay in September 2022, rounding off the year as the top male artist in Ghana on both Boomplay and Spotify. Last month, he also made Rolling Stone’s inaugural list of top Afropop songs.
