Ghana: Indigenous Vibes Band shares debut album The Royal Tribes I
Ghanaian fusion group Indigenous Vibes Band has released its debut album The Royal Tribes I, which is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
The collection of nine songs, according to the group in a statement, is a celebration of the rich rhythms, melodies and traditions that define the essence of African culture. The tracks include ‘Yaya Koba’, ‘Jorley’, ‘Ogbamey’, ‘Kobi Awa’ and ‘Kalabash’.
“The album stands as a testament to our unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting indigenous and authentic music,” a statement says.
Singer, percussionist and bandleader Thomas Nii Lantey Botchway noted that the project pays homage to legendary musicians and performers who have shaped African music.
“Drawing inspiration from Ghanaian and African music pioneers such as King Bruce, Yacub Addy (Odadaa Ensemble), Guy Warren, aka Kofi Ghanaba, Obo Addy (Okropong), Mustapha Tettey Addy, Nana Danso Abiam (Pan African Orchestra), Hugh Masekela, and Hedzoleh Soundz, each track is infused with the spirit of the ancestors and the soul of the continent,” he said.
Botchway added that album, a trove of gems with its blend of African rhythms and contemporary influences, is a “testament to the timeless power of music to unite, inspire, and uplift... whether you’re a seasoned aficionado of African music or a newcomer eager to explore its depths.”
The 10-man Indigenous Vibes Band, comprising percussionists, a drummer, a keyboardist, a bassist, a lead guitarist, a trumpeter, a saxophonist, and dancers, recently took home the trophy for Best Traditional Artist at Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2024.
According to members of the band, the recognition was timely as it encouraged them to keep pushing traditional music and culture through their performances.
