Ghana: Luigi Maclean shares debut album A Thousand Tongues
Seven years after gaining nationwide acclaim, Ghanaian gospel singer Luigi Maclean has released his debut LP A Thousand Tongues. Comprising nine tracks, the project is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
The collection is released on Reverb Studios and features Kofi Owusu Peprah and Siisi Baidoo. It was heralded by the single ‘Mi Le’ in October, following a live recording a few months before that.
“We are pretty excited about it and can’t wait to share it with the world,” the singer told Music in Africa ahead of the release. Separately, label boss and fellow gospel artist Joe Mettle said: “I am so proud of this man right here and I can’t wait for the world to hear the sounds coming from him.”
Luigi Maclean says that thematically the majority of the songs on the project revolve around gratitude. “The title has two sides to it: the first is how my journey in ministry has been. Looking at how it started, how far God has brought me and all the many things He’s done for me, I have every cause to thank God. So figuratively, a thousand tongues for me are a thousand reasons to sing to or praise God. The second is that through this album, thousands of people will sing unto the Lord. Through this album, thousands of people will sing the Redeemer’s praise.”
Ultimately, the singer says that his mission is to “touch lives with the love and power of God through music.”
A multiple Vodafone Ghana Music Awards nominee and a 2023 Male Vocalist of the Year winner at the Praise Achievement Awards, Luigi Maclean – who is also behind well-received offerings like ‘Mala’, ‘Oguama’ and ‘Amazing God’ – has shared the stage with leading African gospel acts such as Diana Hamilton and Steve Crown.
In July 2020, discussing his experiences as an emerging artist in the Ghanaian music scene, Luigi Maclean told Music In Africa that he was “enjoying the journey and making the best out of both the good and the bad that comes with it. I’m really grateful for the support of Joe Mettle who has literally held my hands and is walking me through the course.”
The artists will be embarking on a tour in support of his new album, starting with a concert in Accra on 14 April.
