Ghana Meets Naija releases 2019 line-up
The organisers of popular music concert Ghana Meets Naija have released a list of artists for its 2019 edition.
- Teni will perform at Ghana Meets Naija 2019.
The event was recently launched at Tang Palace Hotel in Accra, Ghana, where attendees were briefed on the line-up of performing artists billed to play the event, as well as on tickets, the date, venue and other details.
At the launch, the public relations officer for Empire Entertainment, Laillah Crystal Banda, said the event would take place at the Accra International Conference Center on 8 June.
“The concept and design of Ghana Meets Naija is to promote unity between the two countries through music," she said.
Now in its ninth edition, the event will take place under the theme Clash of the Titans. Last year, the event was themed Rescue Mission and featured such Nigerian acts as Mr Eazi, Mayorkun and Wizkid. Ghanaian acts who performed were Stonebwoy, Fancy Gadam, King Promise and Kidi.
As with previous editions, this year's Ghana Meets Naija will be framed as a contest between artists of the titular nations, although according to the organisers, Empire Entertainment, the event is meant to promote unity and enhance collaboration among Ghanaian and Nigerian music industry stakeholders and create a positive atmosphere for music fans and artists alike.
In 2018, a commentator described it as a familial competition. "For eight years running, the show has served as a battlefield to play out the sibling rivalry that exists between both nations," he wrote. That edition saw the reconciliation between Wizkid and Shatta Wale after an online squabble.
This year artists performing from Ghana include Medikal, R2bees, Kelvin Bwoy, Tulenkey, J Derobie, AK Songstress, Ras Kuuku, Opanka, Fameye, Narna, Kofi Mole and 'One Corner' singer Patapaa, among others. Nigerian acts to perform include Wande Coal, Victor AD and fast-rising act Teni.
Over the years, the concert has hosted several acts including Wizkid, J Martins, 9ice, VIP, Davido, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Stonebwoy, Olamide, The Mavins, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Kuami Eugene and Flavour.
