Ghana: Rocky Dawuni releases Woara video
Ghanaian Afro-roots singer Rocky Dawuni has released the video for his new single ‘Woara’, which explores the foundations of Ghanaian highlife music as part of the basis of his signature sound.
The clip is the third video off Dawuni’s Voice of Bunbon, Vol. 1 EP. It was shot by his long-time collaborator Slingshot in western Accra, and co-produced by Cary Sullivan and Elorm Beenie.
The picturesque setting of the Weija River serves as the backdrop of the video, which Rocky uses to highlight the importance of conserving the natural environment and clean water sources. The video also showcases African aesthetics and natural lifestyles.
Sonically, ‘Woara’ is anchored in the palmwine variant of highlife popularised by artists like the legendary Koo Nimo. The record features highlife guitar great Ackah Blay and Ghanaian beatmaker Wei Ye Oteng.
Dawuni, who is UN goodwill ambassador for the environment, says that the video aligns with his goal of promoting culture and protecting the natural environment.
Last month, Dawuni spoke and performed at the International Day of People of African Descent celebrations in Costa Rica, where he played at the National Theatre in the capital San José.
