Ghana: Sarkodie drops The Championship mixtape
Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has dropped his new, six-track mixtape titled The Championship, which is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
Prior to the project’s launch, Sarkodie disclosed that the compilation, kicked off by ‘Brag’, would cater specifically to his loyal hip hop enthusiasts.
The rapper added that over the course of a month, the recording process drew fresh inspiration from his earlier works like Makye and Sarkology. This collection delves into themes of trauma, survival, success, loyalty and longevity, and includes contributions from longtime collaborator Joey B, as well as rising talents Xlimkid and Beeztrap KOTM. Production was handled by Fortune Dane, Altra Nova and M.O.G Beatz.
A BET winner and among the most decorated African hip hop acts, Sarkodie boasts nine solo albums, his last full-length collection Jamz arriving in 2022.
Ahead of the release of The Championship, during a promo run in London, UK, Sarkodie teamed up with blockchain platform Opulous in a collaboration that will allow fans to invest in shares of the project.
“I’ve been wanting to do this for the longest because I’m blessed to have the best fanbase in the world,” Sarkodie said on social media. “Thanks to @opulousapp for giving me the platform to give my fans the opportunity to own shares in my music. Myself and @opulousapp coming together to give away a good percentage of my new mixtape #TheChampionshipMixtape to lucky fans! You guys deserve this and more for the support you’ve shown me over the years.”
