Ghana: SuperJazzClub unveils new single 911
Ghanaian collective SuperJazzClub has released its new single ‘911’, which is available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms(link is external).
The record, co-produced by two of the collective’s members, Øbed and Ansah Live, follows the release of ‘OFF’, their inaugural release on the Human Re Sources, label.
‘911’ fuses elements of dub reggae, hip hop and soul with synthy blushes of new wave, and features vocal contributions from members Ansah Live, BiQo, Tano Jackson and Seyyoh.
Thematically, the track unfolds as coarse reflection on failed relationships and existential questions about how one is moving through the world.
Speaking on the song’s subject matter, SuperJazzClub said: “Thematically, it’s a song that talks about karma and how things always come back around. In the hook, BiQo talks about Karma being in the streets looking for him. Using a killer as a metaphor for how severe the effects of his Karma could be. He’s calling 911, asking for help to elude his karma.”
Throughout 2023, SuperJazzClub made considerable strides as an in-demand live act, playing a number of headline shows and festival dates across Europe including The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, CORE Festival (Brussels), Angoulême’s Musique Métisses (Angoulême), We Love Green Festival (Paris) and a sold-out headline show at London’s Paper Dress Vintage.
The group is scheduled to play the Cross The Tracks Festival in London on 26 May.
