Ghanaian producer M.O.G Beatz joins Sony Music Publishing
Sony Music Publishing (SMP) has announced Ghanaian producer M.O.G Beatz as its latest West Africa signing.
He joins a growing roster of African acts at the company, which has already secured the signature of another Ghanaian act, Titi Owusu, as well as that of Nigeria’s 1Da Banton.
“We are pleased to welcome M.O.G Beatz to Sony Music Publishing,” the company confirmed in a statement, adding that the partnership “promises to be the beginning of an incredible journey together.”
M.O.G Beatz is known for his work in different genres like Afrobeats, hip hop, R&B and Fuji. He is behind notable tracks such as Kizz Daniel’s ‘My G’, Bob Marley & The Wailers’ ‘Stir It Up’ featuring Sarkodie, and Lil Kesh’s ‘Feeling Funny’.
In September last year, M.O.G Beatz, whose real name is Kwesi Dosunmu-Mensah, released ‘Pay As You Go’, his debut single as an artist, featuring Sarkodie and Camidoh.
The M.O.G Beatz deal is the latest in SMP strategic initiatives to spur “ongoing acceleration in its global African footprint.” This was after the company launched operations in Lagos, Nigeria, with industry vet Godwin Tom as managing director.
SMP is also actively involved in organising songwriting camps in Accra, Ghana, as part of its wider plan to foster growth opportunities for creative communities throughout Africa.
In a recent interview for Music Business Worldwide’s World Leaders series, SMP’s head of A&R for Africa, Wale ‘Tec’ Davies, underscored the company’s commitment to offering specialised support and educational resources for African artists.
“By building strong foundations for our songwriting community locally, we can provide them with an elevated level of creative support. We are also focusing on global collaboration opportunities to help give SMP Africa songwriters a seat at the international table,” he said.
