Ghana’s Florence Adooni embarks on Europe tour
Ghanaian singer Florence Adooni has begun her 2024 Europe summer tour.
The tour, which runs until 6 September, will take her through Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, France, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands and UK. She will be playing festivals such as FMM Sines, Xajazz, Africa Oyé, Fusion, End of the Road, and Copenhagen Jazz Festival, among others.
News of Adooni’s tour coincides with the release of her song ‘Uh-Ah’. The record, a playful tune that also pays homage to Kumasi, heralds her debut album A.O.E.I.U., due for release later this year on Philophon and distributed via Kudos Records.
Discussing the song’s origins, Adooni revealed that during a visit from German producer Max Weissenfeldt, her young daughter spontaneously joined their piano session, joyfully singing “ah-ah-ah.” Max playfully responded with “uh-uh-uh”. “We laughed so much and decided to make it a piece that would capture that very moment of joy we just experienced. That’s why it’s somehow a children’s song, and I thank my young daughter for it.”
Much has happened since the release of her first single ‘Mam Pe'ela Su'ure’ in 2021: Florence Adooni is now an eight-member live formation, made up of young talents from the highlife scene of Kumasi. The group already has considerable credentials. In 2023, they toured Europe twice and thrilled their audiences at musical celebrations such as Roskilde Festival, Down The Rabbit Hole and Überjazz.
