Ghana’s King Promise joins The Plug Entertainment
Nigerian talent management and music services company The Plug Entertainment has announced that it will now handle Ghanaian popstar King Promise’s Nigerian and global partnerships.
The company confirmed the news this week, saying that the move aligns with a “commitment to nurturing his artistic journey and supporting his career growth.”
King Promise, whose music blends everything from highlife to R&B and Afrobeats, joins other leading African names in The Plug’s talent management portfolio, including Nigerians Davido, Oxlade, BOJ, Focalistic, CKay, Victony and Bella Shmurda.
For the Ghanaian artist, born Gregory Bortey Newman, the move arrives on the heels of his victory at the 2023 edition of the African Muzik Magazine Awards in the US last month, where he took home the Best Male West Africa award. King Promise is behind popular releases ‘Tokyo’ and ‘CCTV’, the track that won him the African Artist of the Year Award at the 2018 Headies in Nigeria, and lately ‘Terminator’. He has two albums to his name, namely As Promised and 5 Star.
In June, The Plug launched a specialised department focusing on publishing and licensing. Comprising A&R personnel and publishing administrators, The Plug Publishing works closely with artists and songwriters to register and administer their musical compositions and copyrights, ensuring proper compensation for their work and opening up revenue streams beyond traditional music releases.
“We also actively seek out sync licensing opportunities for our artists, helping them gain exposure and reach new audiences through music placements in media like film, gaming and the TV industry,” the company said.
In September last year, The Plug inked a partnership with service-based agency TopBoy Entertainment, a deal both companies noted would allow The Plug enhance its strength in solutions and marketing for brands across various areas. The Plug’s sports management operation, meanwhile, represents football stars Asisat Oshoala and Henry Onyekuru, as well as the 100m hurdles world record holder Tobi Amusan.
