Ghana’s Kuami Eugene joins EMPIRE
Ghanaian popstar Kuami Eugene has inked a deal with American distribution company EMPIRE.
The singer and producer, signed to the Accra-based Lynx Entertainment, confirmed the news via Twitter on Wednesday, describing the company as “my new family.”
EMPIRE launched operations in Africa in February, following the opening of a division in the US to focus on West Asia and North Africa in 2021.
Kuami Eugene adds to EMPIRE’s growing roster of African artists, which includes fellow Ghanaians KiDi and Yaw Tog, and Nigeria’s Olamide, Fireboy DML and Kizz Daniel. In 2021, the company reported that its releases “blanketed the top 35 songs” on Apple Music’s Nigeria Top Songs chart.
Kuami Eugene has released two albums to date, Rockstar (2018) and Son of Africa (2020), and first rose to prominence after participating in local music reality TV show MTN Hitmaker.
Apart from his success in Ghana as a solo act, Kuami Eugene has also landed notable international collaborations, such as the remix of CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’, which was honoured by UK-based performance rights organisation BMI earlier this month.
In 2020, Kuami Eugene was crowned Artist of the Year at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. A year later, he released Afro Highlife – a five-track EP blending myriad influences, mainly his foundational sounds of highlife and Afropop.
