Ghana’s Lynx Entertainment inks deal with Sony Music Publishing
Sony Music Publishing (SMP) has announced that it has completed a deal with Ghanaian label Lynx Entertainment.
SMP confirmed the news this week, saying it was thrilled about the development. The arrangement is expected to boost Lynx’s reach and resources by leveraging SMP’s expertise and strategic opportunities while strengthening both companies’ positions regionally and globally.
Founded in 2006, the Richie Mensah-led label is home to Afropop, hiplife, hip hop and R&B artists. It is currently home to established stars like KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Adina and DJ Vyrusky, as well as emerging artists such as Kasar, Maya Blu and DSL. The company, credited with launching careers of acts like Asem, Irene Logan, Eazzy, MzVee and DopeNation, has also entered into other strategic partnerships, including distribution deals with EMPIRE for its artists.
“Lynx Entertainment is Ghana’s premier entertainment company known for its innovation and commitment to nurturing exceptional talents in the music industry in Ghana and the world at large,” SMP said. “With a track record of producing chart-topping hits and fostering the careers of some of Ghana’s most celebrated artists, Lynx Entertainment stands as a beacon of excellence in the global music landscape.”
SMP made its foray into West Africa in 2022 by opening an office in Lagos, Nigeria, with industry vet Godwin Tom as managing director. It boasts an impressive roster of African artists, including Wizkid, Tems, Sarkodie and M.O.G Beatz.
News of the Lynx partnership arrives about a month after SMP secured the signature of Nigerian pop singer Ric Hassani. “With over a decade of musical brilliance, Ric Hassani is not only masterful in delivering soothing soulful melodies but a great songwriter and performer who has captivated audiences with his unique blend of pop, R&B, soul, and traditional Nigerian sounds,” the company said.
