Kenya: Beneath The Baobabs Festival announces line-up for New Year party
Kenya’s alternative festival Beneath The Baobabs has announced its first 60 acts for the New Year party that will take place in Kilifi County from 30 December 2022 to 1 January 2023.
The two-day event will feature four stages at the Enchanted Baobab Forest with international headliners such as UK’s percussive house master Melé, Ghanaian-based Oroko Radio founders Kikelomo and Nico Adomako as well as London’s freshest underground crew and label Touching Bass.
Frank Is Frank of Shapes Festival has been commissioned to curate a special closing session of the main stage.
“For over eight years, Beneath The Baobabs continues to cement ties with purveyors of alternative festivals, building Kilifi as a mecca for East African artists, fans and audiophiles to celebrate the new and past year together,” Beneath The Baobabs creative director Mathew Swallow said.
“We are a platform that brings different sub-cultures and groups together. We are not looking at one genre or one demographic and we allow for growth for groups of artists that may not be getting the support they deserve.”
As ever, the 2022/23 Festival line-up brings together respected names of the Kenyan electronic music scene, some of the freshest acts changing the game in East Africa and globally, as well as a slew of international acts excited to engage with the vibrant crowd of Kilifi.
Set on 50 acres of pristine Enchanted Baobab Forest, upstream from the Takaungu Creek and 5km from the Indian Ocean, Beneath The Baobabs Festival is the perfect tropical setting for a party and holiday experience, offering an immersive experience of contemporary and traditional Kenyan culture.
All four of the festival's stages are built into the forest setting, supported by top-quality sound, lighting, ground performers, art installations and decor, each playing a crucial role in assisting the audience towards a truly transformative experience.
Swallow added: “We welcome everyone. We want to show you that what we have on offer in Kenya is not only tourism but also art and expression.”
