Kenya: Blinky Bill confirmed to speak at ACCES 2018
Kenyan musician and entrepreneur Blinky Bill will take part in a Music In Africa Conference for Collaborations, Exchange and Showcases (ACCES) panel discussion in Nairobi, Kenya, on 17 November.
The panel, titled Accelerating Pan-African Collaborations, will also feature Nigerian musician Mr Eazi. It will be moderated by Kenyan radio host Adelle Onyango.
Like his co-panellist, Blinky Bill has had a fair share of collaborative experiences and inspirational success stories, and his fascination with experimental beatmaking has made him embrace collaborations with musicians from across the continent on his recently released debut album Everyone's Just Winging It & Other Fly Tales.
The album features big-name artists such as 'noirwave' piorneer Petite Noir, Zambian-born poet and rapper Sampa The Great and Nigerian singer Nneka.
Collaborations in Africa have become increasingly popular in recent years, with the East African music scene seeing many partnerships with musicians from the West and southern parts of the continent.
However, the industry is yet to see collaborations between high-profile artists and upcoming musicians. These types of collaborations could be a great boost to the regional and continental music scene, and Blinky Bill and Mr Eazi will share their stories about how cross-border and cross-cultural is made possible.
The Nairobi-based Blinky Bill is an alumnus of The Red Bull Music Academy and a TED Fellow.
The session starts at 2pm on Saturday. View the full ACCES 2018 programme here.
