Kenya: Nameless and Wahu TV show to premiere on Showmax today
The power couple is respected by many for their dedication to their marriage and family life, which they have managed to keep out of the public eye over the past 15 years.
They will now for the first time open up their lives to audiences with the 13-part series, which is executive-produced by award-winning filmmaker Eugene Mbugua. This Love provides a glimpse into their personal lives and follows the couple as they work on their first joint album, which they announced at the beginning of April.
“As we strive to do this joint album, we want to share the story behind the music,” Nameless and Wahu said. “We want to give insights on what inspires us, what drives us, our thought process, personalities, our shared and different perspectives and our different temperaments.
“Furthermore, as we celebrate 20 years in the music industry, we want to share the lessons we’ve learnt even as we continue to play our part as a couple, parents and business partners. Our vision is to synergise and inspire and empower people through marriage, music and mentorship.”
Mbugua, who was in 2016 and 2017 listed among the 30 most promising entrepreneurs under the age of 30 in Africa by Forbes, said: “Both of them have had perhaps the longest staying power of any musician in the country. You cannot tell the story of Kenyan music without telling the story of Nameless and Wahu. They have reinvented themselves year after year, and they have remained rock stars even after becoming parents. They have a ton of stories that Kenya has not heard yet.”
Showmax channel director for East and southern Africa channels Timothy Okwaro said: “It's admirable how they have managed to reinvent themselves and stay relevant despite the changing genres of the music industry in Kenya. We are happy to see them open up their lives to us for the first time, and most importantly, to have that happen on our platform.”
This Love will unveil new episodes every Monday. It is the second reality TV series featuring Kenyan artists on Showmax after Sol Family by award-winning Kenyan pop group Sauti Sol.
Meanwhile, Nameless and Wahu’s first single ‘Te Amo’ has amassed more than 1.1 million views on YouTube since it was released in March.
