Nigeria-based Mavin Records has released a six-track joint EP featuring singer-songwriter Johnny Drille and veteran producer Don Jazzy. Titled Hard Guy Confessions, the project is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
The collection follows their previous successful collaborations, including ‘How Are You (My Friend)’ and ‘Believe Me’.
“Tell me just a few years ago that I’d be making music with Don Jazzy and I’d laugh it off as a ridiculous joke but here we are,” Johnny Drille shared to his 1.5 million Instagram followers ahead of the project’s arrival.
“Even tho as guys we like to form hard guy hard guy [sic], when we lose a great girl we really love, it hurts so bad,” Don Jazzy said. “Johnny Drille and I pour out our emotions on Hard Guy Confessions.”
Thematically, the EP delves into a range of romantic topics, such as unconditional love and heartache. Sonically, Hard Guy Confessions taps into Afrobeats genre while also incorporating elements of funk, reggae and more.
“Johnny and Jazzy’s undeniable chemistry, skill and combined years of experience shine through effortlessly on each track, creating an elevated, refined sound that screams quality,” a statement says. “The result of this collaborative effort is a sublime blend of masculine vulnerability and passion, expressed through pitch perfect vocals and immaculate compositions.”
Hard Guy Confessions heralds the sixth edition of Johnny’s Room Live, an annual concert series headlined by Johnny Drille. Johnny’s Room Live 6 will be held in four major Nigerian cities, namely Lagos, Abuja, Benin and Port Harcourt.
In related news, Johnny Drille was recently named among international celebrities leading smartphone brand TECNO’s #ToneProud campaign. The initiative, which introduces the smartphone brand’s 268 skin tone database, seeks to highlight skin tone diversity, especially in overlooked emerging markets.
“It’s clearer than ever that we all want to see ourselves accurately reflected,” Johnny Drille said. “After seeing so many shades of me across various platforms, I’m happy to finally share my involvement in TECNO’s #ToneProudcampaign, which aims to end skin tone misrepresentation.”
