The Mic: Africa announces Season 3 finalists
Hip hop competition The Mic: Africa has announced the 10 finalists for this year’s edition.
The brainchild of AMP Global, the contest is associated with Take Back the Mic: The World Cup of Hip Hop. The competition first launched in Kingston, Jamaica, and has since been held in Medellin, Colombia, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Mic: Africa has been running for three seasons now and acts as a springboard for emerging rappers from the continent. It seeks to connect African music, arts and culture with a new generation of fans around the world.
The top 10 are Cheucra (Ivory Coast), Dagmawi (Ethiopia), Ric Spade (Ghana), Mistar Drey (Kenya), Drunk Panda (Morocco), Neky (Nigeria), Annick Pierra (Rwanda) Calvin Wysley (Senegal), Hearten Hitherto Productions (South Africa) and J93 (Tanzania).
Fans can power their favourite contestants via the Take Back the Mic app, which is available for iOS and Android. The winners will be announced during the final episode of the talent show on 30 October.
“With The Mic: Africa, our goal at TBTM Studios is to showcase and lift the amazing artists and filmmakers we discover on the TBTM platform to global recognition and prominence,” AMP Global founder Derrick Ashong said.
“There is so much artistic excellence emerging from the African continent. We plan to work with these talents and other emerging stars for years to come in establishing Africa as a hub for the best in music, media and technology while expanding our brand to other regions and continents.”
Previous The Mic: Africa winners include Fecko from Nigeria and Yeyo from Ghana.
