Mixcloud adds live-streaming feature
UK-based digital audio streaming platform Mixcloud has added a live-streaming tool called Mixcloud Live on its platform.
The company says the new service is the first music-centred solution that allows creators to livestream, immediately archive the audio and generate income on a licensed platform.
The live functionality is now available for all PRO members and works with streaming software such as OBS and Wirecast, among others.
Mixcloud is popular among creators who upload mixes, radio shows and long-form audio. The company boasts more than 50 million DJ mixes, radio shows and podcasts. The platform also has licensing deals with major music rights holders Merlin, Warner Music and Universal Music.
Mixcloud Live has been integrated with Mixcloud’s Select programme, which enables creators to earn an income directly from fans who support their channel for a small monthly contribution.
“We hope that Mixcloud Live brings a little more fun and maybe some dancing into your home, particularly at this time when the world is socially distant and we all need to feel a bit closer,” Mixcloud co-founder Nico Perez said.
“In addition, we are very focused on helping creators generate more income directly from their fans via their live streams”.
In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Mixcloud says it is pushing its New Systems initiative this quarter, which could help audio creators build a more sustainable future. This includes waiving their fees on Select and offering new subscribers extended 90-day trials for Mixcloud PRO for a limited time.
Mixcloud Live could also help DJs and artists avoid infringing on mechanical and public performance rights on digital platforms.
Interested artists can sign up for the free-trial offers on Mixcloud's official website.
