MTN Bushfire receives hundreds of artist applications
MTN Bushfire has received more than 800 artist applications from 57 countries for the festival’s 2020 edition in Malkerns Valley, eSwatini, from 26 to 29 May.
The announcement follows a call for applications made in August. Artists have until 31 October to submit their music to be in with a chance to perform at the event.
“The distinctly African, yet globally-infused festival has received applications from eSwatini, Botswana and South Africa, and from as far afield the US, France, Greece, Reunion, the DRC, Gabon, Haiti and Venezuela, among many others,” the festival organisers said.
The selected acts will perform one MTN Bushfire four stages, which include the Main Stage, House on Fire, The Barn and FireFly.
“Artists who would like to be part of this amazing and ongoing musical experience are invited to apply to perform at the 2020 edition of MTN Bushfire,” MTN Bushfire said. "MTN Bushfire is looking for a diversity of artists from a range of musical styles and across genres. The festival looks for artists who not only entertain but embody the festival’s strong atmosphere of tolerance and inclusion and its purposeful celebration of diversity through art.”
Each year, the MTN Bushfire festival presents about 70 artists from around the world. “Every year features an eclectic mix of world music, African music, traditional and cultural music styles from across the globe, electro, Afropop, jazz, folk, rock, gqom, house, and a range of other diverse styles.”
In addition to musical performances, MTN Bushfire hosts dance performances, art exhibitions, installations, theatre, poetry, storytelling, puppetry, film and themed workshops.
