Music In Africa appoints Peter Choge as East Africa Regional Editor
The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kenyan journalist Peter Choge as its East Africa Regional Editor.
Choge will operate from the MIAF’s Nairobi office where he will be in charge of content production and partnerships in the East African region. He joins the NPO with more than 10 years of experience in the digital publishing and print space. He has previously worked as a copy and desk editor for leading Kenyan media companies including The Standard Group and Nation Media Group. Choge holds an arts degree from Kenyatta University in Nairobi.
“It is an honour to join Music In Africa and contribute to the great work being done here to support the growth of African music,” he said. “The warm welcome and support that has been accorded to me is unlike any other. I can tell that this is an organisation that values the well-being of its staff and I am sure I will thrive here not only as a music journalist but as a cultural analyst. I promise our readership and partners that we are in for exciting times as we continue cementing our position as Africa’s most authoritative music portal.”
Music In Africa editor-in-chief Kalin Pashaliev said: “We are very excited to have Peter Choge on board. Peter is a highly experienced journalist who has a deep passion for the arts and the journalism profession. He will play a key role in our efforts to support music professionals in East Africa with credible reporting on the music industries in countries like Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia.”
The MIAF is currently extending its research work to cover the music industry in Sudan through reliable overviews texts. This content will provide objective information about the different aspects of the local industry, including its traditional, contemporary and urban music genres, its instruments, the recording and live music scenes, the role that women play in music, the opportunities that exist for music professionals in the region, and cultural policy, among others.
Artists, contributors, organisations and labels in East Africa that would like to share details about their work and connect with Peter Choge can do so at peter@musicinafrica.net.
