Namibian stars unite for launch of Dixon's new album ‘Happy Place’
Award-winning Namibian musician Dixon and his newly established independent label Ultimate Rhythm Entertainment are gearing up for the official album release concert of his fourth album, titled Happy Place. The concert will be hosted at the Zoo Park Amphitheatre in Windhoek on Friday 27 May.
The album was released in stores across Namibia on 23 April – primarily for his fans to get a feel for the new songs prior the concert.
The launch event will also feature performances from various Namibian artists, namely Lady May, Ghetto Ballerina, King Phura, Kp Illest, Mushe and Tripple T – artists who Dixon believes will each bring a unique element to the show to cater to a variety of listeners. Cillio The DJ and DJ Boykie will be on the decks and the energetic Che Tha Goddess will be the night’s MC.
According to the artist, Happy Place took over a year to perfect and complete because he was determined to deliver the best quality of music to his fans and music lovers in general. The title of the new album is Dixon’s way of inspiring listeners to find the positivity in any situation in life. The album begins with sad songs and then moves into happy, up-tempo dance songs, depicting life gradually becoming better. He is therefore encouraging listeners, particularly the youth, to keep working hard towards their dreams.
The 15-track album fuses R&B and dance sounds and was recorded at Welwitschia Music Production and Lash Attraction studios. Produced by some of Namibia’s most talented producers, namely Elvo ‘Dr Mavovo’ Diergardt, Steven ‘Alvin’ Naruseb, KaniBal and Ultimate Rhythm’s very own Ash. The final mastering of the album was done by Elvo as well.
Although Dixon initially wanted to do the whole album alone, two songs led him to collaborate with other artists - talented Zambian female rapper Cleo IceQueen on the party tune ‘Get Lit’ and Namibian rapper Kp Illest on the motivational ‘Ain’t Backing Down’, both of whom do justice to what Dixon was intending to accomplish with the songs, helping to make this album the best of his career so far. Happy Place follows his previous releases This Is Me, Thank You and 2015’s Strong, which included the hits ‘Owambo Girl’ and ‘Ti Xun’.
Dixon has drawn on the support from Namibian corporate sponsors to help stage the upcoming launch event, namely African Dream Clothing, Windhoek Family Practice, Energy100fm, Mikel-Jes and Streethouse Clothing. The artist explained that the support from these companies does not only empower the country’s local talent but also encourages the growth of Namibian music, arts and culture in general.
Tickets for the launch concert are on sale now for N$60 (US$3.80) at Computicket.
