Nas's hip-hop documentary set for release
Shake The Dust, an 85-minute feature-length documentary on hip-hop culture’s global influence, produced by US rapper Nas is ready for release. Production work on the documentary commenced in November 2013, and chronicles the stories of rappers, DJs and b-boys across Uganda, Colombia, Yemen and Cambodia. Narrated by Ugandan b-boy called Karim, the film was shot by journalist-turned-director and photographer Adam Sjӧberg.
“What these kids are doing around the world reminds me why I fell in love with hip-hop and how important it is as a creative and constructive outlet,” said Nas about the project. “After hearing Adam’s vision for this project and hearing the stories, I was incredibly excited to help bring the film to global audiences who need to hear this surprising message of empowerment.”
According to okayafrica.com the documentary is available online as a thirty-day exclusive download on Vimeo on Demand. It is set for a limited theatrical rollout in the US starting May 15 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles.
