Nas's hip-hop documentary set for release
Shake The Dust, an 85-minute feature-length documentary on hip-hop culture’s global influence, produced by US rapper Nas is ready for release. Production work on the documentary commenced in November 2013, and chronicles the stories of rappers, DJs and b-boys across Uganda, Colombia, Yemen and Cambodia. Narrated by Ugandan b-boy called Karim, the film was shot by journalist-turned-director and photographer Adam Sjӧberg.
“What these kids are doing around the world reminds me why I fell in love with hip-hop and how important it is as a creative and constructive outlet,” said Nas about the project. “After hearing Adam’s vision for this project and hearing the stories, I was incredibly excited to help bring the film to global audiences who need to hear this surprising message of empowerment.”
According to okayafrica.com(link is external) the documentary is available online as a thirty-day exclusive download on Vimeo on Demand(link is external). It is set for a limited theatrical rollout in the US starting May 15 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles.
