Niger: Dag Tenere releases single ahead of new EP
Niger-based Tuareg group Dag Tenere last week released a single ‘Tihoussay Tenere’ ahead of their upcoming six-track EP titled Iswat.
‘Tihoussay Tenere’ is available for streaming and download on major digital platforms. Recorded in Niger, the single was mixed and mastered by Antoine Livenais in France. Iswat was produced with the support of the African Culture Fund and Spanish label Nomada Music and will be released on 4 June.
According to the group, the EP was a result of “several months of hard work and the desire to give the best. Dag Tenere has managed to find the balance between tradition and modernity while keeping our own style.”
Dag Tenere took to Facebook to share the success of its single following the release: “Great. Our single ‘Tihoussay Tenere’ has been added on Radio 3S, a 100% solar powered web radio. ‘Tihoussay Tenere’ has also been added to the Sunrise Coffee playlist.”
Founded in 2016, Dag Tenere is a group of Tuareg artists from Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso. Their music is strongly influenced by the Tuareg blues style and is a fusion of various traditional percussion instruments, which give the songs a more natural guy style. The groups seeks to aspire, promote and preserve the culture and traditions of the nomadic people of the Sahara Desert. In 2018, they released their self-produced debut album titledTimasniwen Tikmawen.
