Nigeria: 2Baba to livestream COVID-19 benefit concert
Nigerian artist 2Baba has teamed up with Trophy Extra Special Stout, a brand from International Breweries, to hold the Extra Special E-Concert in a bid to fight the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The concert will take place on 12 April.
- 2Baba's e-concert will be streamed live on 12 April.
"I have an extra special announcement to make," 2Baba said on Instagram. "On 12 April, I will be hosting the Extra Special E-Concert, the first of its kind in Nigeria, to support the cause to minimise social gatherings. To achieve this, I have partnered with the new Trophy Extra Special Stout and together we will also be donating N10m [$25 000] towards relieving the current situation."
“The idea of the e-concert for me is to lend my voice and call on all Nigerians to come together to fight this global pandemic by heeding the stay-at-home request from the government so that the spread of the virus can be reduced to its barest minimum.”
The concert will be streamed live on all 2Baba and Trophy Extra Special Stout social media pages.
Speaking ahead of the concert, Trophy Extra Special Stout marketing manager Bamise Oyegbami said: “We have decided to support 2Baba in this quest because as a brand, we acknowledge the importance of this initiative, hence we are fully behind it.
“We are not in business just for profit; our ecosystem is very key to us based on our purpose of bringing people together for a better world. This can only be attained if necessary support is given to people and society whenever it is needed, which is what we want to achieve with this e-concert."
Oyegbami said viewers of the online concert would stand a chance to win prizes, "which can be helpful to people whose livelihood may have been impacted by the stay at home situation. This is an avenue to encourage as many persons to participate and be a part of the cause.”
On 2 April, Nigeria had registered 174 coronavirus cases, including two deaths and nine recoveries. President Muhammadu Buhari announced a lockdown of Lagos, Abuja, and Ogun on 30 March.
