Nigeria: Mercy Chinwo unveils third album Overwhelming Victory
Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo today released her third studio album titled Overwhelming Victory. The 12-track project is available for streaming and download across all major digital streaming platforms.
Published via GNT Nation, the compilation, building upon the thematic foundation of her recent EP Elevated (April 2023), encourages audiences to embark on a spiritual voyage of surrender, echoing the assurance that the presence of God accompanies every step of the journey.
At the core of this album are also themes of a remarkable journey and new beginnings.
“For me, it is a joyful theme,” she said. “It depicts victory, it depicts joy, it depicts faith, it depicts hope in our walk with Christ. And I’m really excited about this project because it’s really going to encourage not just Christians but people who hope to be a part of us, and it will really make them know more about the person of Jesus Christ. And it’s really exciting to know that I was heavily pregnant while working on this project. It was a bit different for me, because I had to do certain things that I would likely not do if I wasn’t pregnant. I had to leave my comfort zone. I had to ensure that I put in the work, the time and energy into making this project a reality.”
Among the most streamed female Nigerian acts and accomplished names in the African gospel music space, Mercy Chinwo gained prominence by clinching the top spot in the second season of Nigerian Idol. Under the banner of EeZee Conceptz in 2017, she unveiled her debut album The Cross My Gaze in 2018, followed by the release of her second album Satisfied, in 2020.
She boasts chart-topping singles and a collection of prestigious awards, including the coveted Best International Act accolade at the Premier Gospel Awards in the UK, an African Gospel Award for Best Gospel Artist in West Africa and the Nigeria Entertainment Award for Gospel Artist of the Year.
