Nigeria: Yaadman shares Yes Indeed deluxe EP
Nigerian Afro-dancehall singer Yaadman today unveiled a deluxe EP edition of his new collection Yes Indeed, which is available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms.
The project, comprising 11 songs, arrives fresh off the success of his latest single ‘Vawulence’ featuring fellow Nigerian act Ice Prince and Ghana’s Sarkodie.
According to a statement, the record is “testament to [Yaadman’s] meteoric rise, firmly cementing his status as a bona fide superstar. Unyielding in his pursuit of artistic autonomy, Yaadman’s brilliance shines forth without inhibition, commanding the spotlight with a magnetic allure.”
Thematically, Yes Indeed listens as an exploration of love, triumph and resilience, its author fearlessly exposing his unfiltered and authentic life experiences. “Fearlessly delving into the peaks and valleys of his journey, he paints an evocative portrait of an artist embracing his identity, gracefully navigating the complexities of fame while staying firmly rooted in his origins,” the. statement adds.
The project also finds Yaadman effortlessly transitioning between the core elements of Afropop and the broader influences of reggae. He exhibits his fluidity on songs like amapiano joint ‘Confama’ featuring Afro Junkie, while on the buoyant ‘Sabi Boy’, he enlists 1da Banton. ‘Free My Mind’ offers room for further introspection, while ‘Heavy Rotation’ sees Yaadman retain his perpetual dancehall qualities.
Yaadman, born Christopher Omenyeand and formerly trading by the stage name Yung L, is part of the new generation reshaping the sound of West African music. His musical journey started under the guidance of his mother, and he acquired instrumental skills from accomplished church musicians. During his time at the University of Jos, he co-founded the GRIP movement alongside fellow musicians. His ascent to national recognition began in 2017 when he joined forces with Jamaican-American electronic dance music and DJ trio Major Lazer for the remix of ‘Run Up’, after signing with Chocolate City Music.
Yes Indeed adds to a growing catalogue of EPs by the artist, including CLRS (2022), Juice & Zimm (2020) and Jollification (2019). Yaadman is also behind two albums, namely Yaadman Kingsize (2021) and Better Late Than Never (2017).
