Nikita Kering' back with new single Doja featuring LMBSKN
Kenyan singer Nikita Kering is back with her second single of 2024 ‘Doja’ in which she joins forces with Nigerian experimental producer Osarumen Osamuyi, better known as LMBSKN.
This Afro-house track – which is available for streaming and download across major digital platforms – marks Nikita Kering’s debut into a new genre, showcasing her evolution as an artist. The production, mixing and mastering were done by LMBSKN, while songwriting was a collaborative effort between Nikita Kering' and fellow Kenyan singer and songwriter Savinnah.
Expressing sensuality in a way she has never done before, this latest release solidifies Nikita Kering’s position as a versatile and innovative artist. Fans can also experience the track’s captivating visual story shot by budding Kenyan cinematographer Heri Emmanuel starring Nikita Kering' and her signature Teddy bear, with LMBSKN making a cameo.
At just 22 years old Nikita Kering has accomplished what few artists in the Kenyan music industry have. The singer, who started performing when she was just four years old, has won several accolades, including All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMAs) for Best R&B and Soul Artist, and Best Female Artist in East Africa. At the 2019 AFRIMAs, she won the Best Female Artist in East Africa and Revelation of the African Continent awards.
In 2020, she was the youngest performer at the annual Women in Music concert series in Nairobi. The following year, she released her debut EP A Side of Me to rave reviews. In 2022, she performed with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra on BBC 1xtra, and in 2023 she represented Kenya in Coke Studio Africa alongside rapper Khaligraph Jones. In November last year, she released The Other Side EP which has garnered impressive streams across major DSPs.
For Nigerian experimental producer LMBSKN, making music is both about preserving tradition and subverting it. With influences like William Onyeabor, Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams and Kaytranada, he is uncovering new motifs in African dance music. Through his electronic project, LMBSKN weaves together elements of house, bass, disco, funk, Afrobeats and amapiano to produce energetic, melancholic, synth-driven songs.
In 2022, LMBSKN worked on the soundtrack album for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, leading the engineering team in Lagos, Nigeria. He is credited as a recording engineer on two singles – ‘Lift Me Up’, Rihanna’s Oscar-nominated tribute to Chadwick Boseman and ‘No Woman No Cry’, Tems’ rendition of the 1974 single by Bob Marley and The Wailers.
