Oliver Mtukudzi and Winky D’s new single a hit

Produced by award-winning Zimbabwean producer Oskid, real name Prince Tapfuma of Oskid Productions, the track premiered on local radio station Star Fm on Thursday, 8 September to the delight of many. Fusing Tuku’s signature acoustic guitar rhythm with melodic synths the single is receiving positive feedback from fans and critics alike. It has been widely praised for its catchy chorus and powerful message regarding death.

 “What better voice to sing about death than that of Oliver Mtukudzi? His voice is gravelly in this effort. As if he has a capsule of grit and sand in his voice box. It crackles and cries along to the harmony. His voice sounds like broken glass,” wrote arts journalist Robert Mukondiwa on his blog.

In a statement, Winky D’s management said ‘Panorwadza Moyo’ will serve as the lead track for  Winky D’s next album. The artist has also recently sampled two well-received new tracks ‘25’ and ‘Babie RaMwari’, which will most likely land on the new album.

Winky D is not the first young artist to feature the legendary Tuku. Ex Q, and Fungisai Zvakavapano are some of the young Zimbabwean artists who have featured the music icon on their songs.

Real name Wallace Chirumiko,  Winky D is one of the most recognizable names in Zimbabwe’s rapidly developing dancehall music sector. He has released some of the most successful dancehall albums in the country, including The People’s Devotee, Chatsva, Cum 2 Tek Ova, Igofigo and Vanhu Vakuru.

Meanwhile, Tuku is expected to launch his new album Ehe Kani Nhai Yahweh on Thursday, 22 September at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton, Zimbabwe. With over 60 albums to his name, Tuku is expected to reach new heights with the 10-track album which has already been launched in South Africa and the UK.
