Open call: Chenhaka Trust workshop facilitators in Zimbabwe
Chenhaka Trust in Zimbabwe is inviting experienced individuals to submit applications to facilitate workshops for its Performing Arts Business and Digital Distribution project in Bulawayo (Matabeleland) and Mutare (Manicaland) from 14 to 30 September and 23 October to 24 November, respectively.
The Performing Arts Business and Digital Distribution project is funded by the Sound Connects Fund, an initiative by the Music In Africa Foundation and Goethe-Institut. The Sound Connects Fund is made possible with the financial contribution of the European Union and the support of the organisation of ACP States.
The trust requires a total of eight facilitators in Bulawayo and Mutare. The topics, which will each run for three days, are as follows:
- Arts Management and Financial Literacy.
- Artistic Freedom and Decent Work.
- Performing Arts Digital Skills Training.
- Booking and Tour Management, Stage Management and Lighting Design.
Note: Facilitators are encouraged to apply for one topic only.
About the task
The facilitator is tasked and expected to:
- Design three days’ workshop content, deliver/implement, facilitate engagement in artistic practice and evaluate the workshop.
- Run the workshop/facilitate the discussion groups. (NB: The workshop will have 70 participants).
- Monitor the discussion groups and bring participants to the same level of conceptual understanding of the topic and allow sharing of experiences, concerns and/or good practice.
- Describe the workshop according to the standard session plan (session outline).
- Prepare all necessary handouts, PowerPoint content or other session-related materials.
- Deliver content in an interactive way (non-formal education).
- After the workshop, draft some key conclusions and send them to the programme coordinator for the reporting purposes.
- Sustain communication with the programme coordinator during the preparation phase and during the training.
The training aims to build some practical skills for contemporary and cultural dancers, dance groups, choreographers and dance associations. The framework topics are the ideas raised in the conceptualisation phase of the project.
Expected facilitator’s profile
- Expertise/experience in the topic of the discussion group and ability to provide additional information and resources on the requested topic.
- Practical experience in the topic of the skill-building workshop, ability to showcase examples and guide participants when needed.
Skills and qualities
- Good knowledge and understanding of the particular topic and creative sector.
- Well organised with good time-management skills.
- Good communication and negotiation skills.
- IT skills, including PowerPoint presentation.
- Active listening and awareness of others and their behaviour.
- Providing a structured thought process and how to move others to consensus.
Remuneration
- Lump sum of €200 (about $215) equivalent in US dollars after the event by bank transfer.
- Meals (lunch and refreshments) will be provided during the training.
- Travel cost (local transport within the host city) will be paid at €10 per day/US dollar equivalent three days.
Note: Applicants from the host city or from outside the host city who are interested in this position should note that accommodation is not provided by the trust. However, if the facilitator is prepared to cover his or her accommodation during the stay, he or she can apply.

Interested applicants should submit their applications to Chenhaka Trust head of programmes via email at chenhakatrust@gmail.com before 8 September and 13 October for Bulawayo and Mutare, respectively.
Applicants should attach their CVs and traceable working experience or any qualification/expertise in the topic supported by two reference letters.
