Open call: Fak'ugesi Festival theme song and poster competition
African musicians, graphic designers and visual artists are invited to submit entries for the 2024 edition of the Fak'ugesi Festival theme song and poster competition.
The competition, which is being held ahead of this year’s Fak'ugesi Festival, will run under the theme, #UntilUnlocked.
Theme song specifications
- The theme song will need to be shared with Fak'ugesi Festival in a final MP3 format for final judging.
- Individual tracks for vocals, instrumental at a minimum. You may include up to five tracks.
- You must be the sole creator of the theme song.
Poster concept specifications
- The poster concept must be in a Portrait A3 format 297mm wide x 420mm high.
- Applications in any visual format are accepted. The organisers are looking for exciting raw concepts that will be developed with their internal designers. Entrants should keep in mind that this does mean their concept will be transformed into a scalable vector format by the festival’s design team.
- Entrants must be the sole creators of their concepts.
Criteria
- Deadline: 29 May 2024, 11.59pm WAT
- Only African resident may apply
- Be 18 to 35 years old
- Specific formats apply to each category
- Prize: Theme song – R5 000 (about $270)
- Prize: Poster Concept – R2 500

“This year we are looking for a theme song that will carry our #UntilUnlocked concept into the airwaves,” Fak'ugesi Festival said. “Imagine your song as part of our 2024 animated trailer and as the backing sound for our festival activities. You may even be further invited to perform your song live during the festival.”
