Open call: Weekend Culturel DÉCOLONIAL 2024 projects in Rwanda
IRIBA Center for Multimedia Heritage in Rwanda, in partnership with the Goethe-Institut Kigali, has announced an open call launch for projects as part of Weekend Culturel DÉCOLONIAL 2024.
Now in its sixth edition, the annual programme, which takes place in October, aligns with UNESCO’s World Day for Audiovisual Heritage.
Project categories
The open call encompasses four project categories focusing on:
- Group dynamics (co-creation among artists).
- Transmission (for all ages).
- Safeguarding endangered art forms (e.g. singing, dancing, performing arts, traditional craftsmanship, aesthetic basketry).
- Promoting inclusivity (supporting talented artists lacking access to project calls due to language barriers).

Proposals can be submitted in English, French or Kinyarwanda.
Criteria for applicants
- Clearly express the project vision and its impact.
- Ensure feasibility within time and budget constraints.
- Embrace diversity and inclusivity.
- Highlight collaboration for joint projects.
- Celebrate the region’s cultural heritage.
- The production of the project must be presented during the WCD 2024.
Support from IRIBA Center and Goethe-Institut
- Collaborative projects: Financial support up to RWF1.5m (about $1 100).
- Individual projects or milestones: financial support up to RWF750 000.
- 80% of funds allocated upfront, 20% upon completion.
- Skill-building workshops and exchanges with experienced artists.
- Access to rehearsal space.
Who can apply?
Rwandan artists and artists from the Great Lakes region living in Rwanda.

What application documents are required?
Applications must contain the following:
- Info sheet – Call for Projects (English)
- Info sheet – Call for Projects (Kinyarwanda)
- Info sheet – Call for Projects (Francais)
- Application form
- Budget template
- A calendar of activities (please draft it yourself).
- A presentation of the main artist (portfolio).
- An overview on joint projects (artists involved).
The application deadline is 23 June 2024 at 23.59pm CAT.
All applications submitted will receive a response within one month.
