Patoranking’s debut album gets August release date
Nigerian reggae/dancehall singer Patoranking has announced a release date for his debut album.
Named God Over Everything, the album will reach the stores and the internet on Monday 1 August.
The album marks a new phase of the career of the man who came on the scene with the song ‘Alubarika’. Then mostly unknown and under the wing of pop star Timaya, Patoranking would move on and end up at the international reggae-dancehall label VP Records.
So far Patoranking has made hit songs ‘Girlie O’, ‘Another Level’, ‘Make Am’, all in different genres, having influences from reggae, afropop and 1990s Nigerian music - a versatility that will feed into the forthcoming album.
“Expect the unexpected,” says Patoranking in an official statement. “It [God Over Everything] has a song for everyone, for people of all ages, class and from all parts of Africa. I wanted to pay homage to my roots and also embrace the new school African music scene that is taking over the world. I can’t wait for the world to hear it, to hear us.”
Already the album’s first single, ‘No Kissing Baby’ has been released. The song features Sarkodie from Ghana, a country with a music scene Patoranking strongly identifies with.
As a way of preparing fans for the release, Patoranking took to Facebook to share some inspirational words. “Keep your eyes on the prize,” he wrote, “and never forget how it started and who you started with. The people you keep close to you determine how far and how high you will go in life. They can inspire you, they can motivate you, and they can show you things going on around you that you might not see.”
He concluded saying, “#GOEtheAlbum is me telling the stories of those around me for the world to hear. And now that I have your ears, I won’t fail you.”
