Rema’s Calm Down goes gold in the US
Nigerian singer Rema’s single ‘Calm Down’ has gone gold in the US after selling more than 500 000 units.
The record was certified on 30 November and means that its author joins other Afrobeats acts Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido and Tems who have each chalked up a similar accolade in the US.
The feat arrives three months after ‘Calm Down’ became a diamond-certified record in France after surpassing 50 million streams.
Published by Mavin Global/Jonzing World, the song is taken from Rema’s debut album Rave & Roses, which was released in March. It is co-produced by Andre Vibez and Michael ‘London’ Hunter.
‘Calm Down’, which was recently updated with a fresh verse from US singer Selena Gomez, currently boasts 258 million YouTube streams and rounded up 2022 as the ninth most streamed song on Spotify in Nigeria.
Last month, it also became the first track to top the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s newly-launched singles chart for the Middle East and North Africa.
“I’d like to thank all of my fans across the region who streamed ‘Calm Down’ and helped it to become the first ever Official MENA Chart No.1,” Rema said. “I am so happy that you are enjoying the song and very proud to be the first artist to reach No.1. Thanks also to the team at my label for the support.”
