SA: Apple Music adds Nomfundo Moh to Africa Rising programme
South African singer and songwriter Nomfundo Moh has been featured on Apple Music’s Africa Rising programme.
Africa Rising is a programme and playlist that identifies, showcases and elevates rising talent while introducing the next generation of African superstars. Every year, Apple Music selects six artists, who each receive two months of editorial support across Apple Music platforms including Apple Music 1 radio.
“I am at an absolute loss for words having been selected as the Africa Rising artist on Apple Music,” the 22-year-old Nomfundo Moh told Apple Music. “The support Apple Music has shown me has been crazy. Being on this programme is the next step in taking my music to the world. Can’t wait to see what’s next!”
The announcement comes after the releases of her debut album Amagama. The 13-track offering explores Afropop soundscapes fused with various elements of R&B, hip hop and traditional pop. Featured artists on the album include Sha Sha and Ami Faku on ‘Phakade Lami’, De Mthuda and Da Muziqal Chef on ‘Kuhle’ and NaXion Cross and Beast RSA on ‘Ngamkhetha’.
Nomfundo Moh gained attention in 2020 following the release of her debut single ‘Lilizela’. She draws inspiration from the storytelling abilities of Brenda Fassie, Amanda Black, Simmy and Ami Faku. Besides music, Nomfundo is a University of KwaZulu-Natal graduate and a qualified social worker.
