Sedibe takes over from advocate Nick Matzukis who was the collective management organisation's chairperson since its inception in 2014.
“We would like to thank Nick for his tireless commitment to the organisation and its members, his contribution to the growth of the organisation is truly immeasurable,” CAPASSO said. “Under his tenure, CAPASSO grew mechanical rights collections into a thriving business with the final year of collections surpassing R100 million [$6.m].
“It is our pleasure to announce that following the first half a decade of operations, CAPASSO has now entered a new dawn with the appointment of Leslie Sedibe as its new chairman of the board. Under Sedibe’s stewardship, CAPASSO is confident that we will continue the same growth trajectory. Sedibe is a businessman with an indelible record within the entertainment business.”
Sedibe holds BA, LLB, and LLM (tax) degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand and served as CEO of Proudly South Africa from 2011 to 2016. In 2009, he was appointed the director of the interim board of directors at the South Africa Broadcasting Cooperation and a director of the 2010 FIFA World Cup organising committee.
CAPASSO CEO Jotam Matariro said: “It was a challenge trying to get the right candidate as we were looking for a candidate with the right mix of academic qualifications, business savvy and legal expertise to lead the CAPASSO board in line with the current CAPASSO Africa growth strategy”.
Sedibe will chair the board comprising Nick Matzukis, Yoel Kenan, David Alexander, Nomsa Mazwai, Tshepo Nzimande and Craig McGahey.
