SA: DJ Stokie’s Awukhuzeki single rises on amapiano charts
South African amapiano artist DJ Stokie’s latest track ‘Awukhuzeki’ maintained its impressive run on the Official South African Charts (TOSAC), ascending to the Top 10 locally and internationally this week.
According to TOSAC data, ‘Awukhuzeki’, released only nine weeks ago, climbed to No 7 on the Top 100 local amapiano hits and No 9 on the global Top 200 chart for the week ending 20 July.
The success solidifies DJ Stokie’s position as an undeniable force in the growing global amapiano movement. The artist recently treated his fans to an exhilarating musical experience with his latest album titled Journey Continues, which showcases his signature sound and features a seamless blend of deep basslines, catchy melodies and infectious rhythms.
Also climbing up the charts this week are Gunna and Sam Deep. Gunna’s ‘Fukumean’ has been on a steady rise, landing at No 4 on the international chart. Meanwhile, Sam Deep and Eemoh's collaborative effort ‘iMpumelelo’ hit climbed to No 4 and No 6 locally and internationally.
Amidst the steep competition, Tyler ICU and Tumelo_za continue to reign supreme at the top spot for the 11th consecutive week. Their hit ‘Mnike’, featuring DJ Maphorisa, Nandipha808, Ceeka RSA and Tyron Dee, has captured audiences and generated multiple dance challenges.
How the chart works:
TOSAC recognises digital streaming numbers of singles. The charts are an aggregation from Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and YouTube Music compiled by BMAT Music Innovators, the global music technology leaders. Chart week is tracked from Friday to Thursday.
Different versions of a track are aggregated to their corresponding original, i.e.:
- Radio edits.
- Same song with additional featuring artists.
- DJs remixes, as long as the original artist is credited.
- Different language/country versions.
How YouTube Music streaming is calculated:
- Only logged-in users of official music content are eligible for inclusion.
- Only consumption of longer than 30 seconds is registered.
- Views of official content which have been generated by advertising campaigns (ad views) are not included.
- Provided they meet the criteria above, views from both the subscription and ad-supported tiers of YouTube are eligible.
