SA: K.O’s SR3 album certified platinum
South African rapper K.O’s SR3 album has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA).
RiSA is the globally recognised sole authority responsible for issuing gold, platinum and multi-platinum certification in South Africa. SR3, released on 16 September 2022, features hit tracks such as ‘SETE’, ‘OWAMI’ AND ‘ROCKABYE’, has 14 songs in total with guest appearances from Sarkodie, Msaki, Vuyina, Pabi Cooper, Zuma, Young Stunna and Blxckie.
K.O shared the news on social media. “Before flying out to the BET’s, I was informed my fourth solo album SR3 (Skhanda Republic 3) is officially platinum,” K.O wrote. “A hip hop album going platinum in this climate off no stunts no gimmicks – just music. Thank you to all the contributors and all my supporters.”
‘SETE’ has racked up more than 81m streams since its release and was recently recognised with a plaque. The track topped the charts consistently, reaching number one on Radiomonitor for 19 consecutive weeks, setting a new record. The song’s success was followed by a remix featuring Diamond Platnumz, Oxlade and Young Stunna.
SR3 has collected a number of accolades, with ‘SETE’ being crowned the most streamed song of 2022 on Spotify when it reached the platinum status 16 days after its release. It was also the first South African record to reach 10m streams in three months of release. Following in its footsteps is ‘ROCKABYE’, which features amapiano sensation, Toss. The hit is currently topping the Radiomonitor charts in the top five and has amassed 285 000 streams globally since release. The album received seven nominations at the 2023 Metro FM Awards and a BET nomination in the International Act category.
