SA: Ladysmith Black Mambazo releases EP in Dolby Atmos
Grammy-winning South African a capella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo (LBM) has released a four-track EP titled Ikhaya Nothando.
The project was released on Gallo Record Company to celebrate Heritage Month and is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
The release sees old and new given an updated surround sound treatment using Dolby Atmos technology, which is available through Spatial Audio on Apple Music. Dolby Atmos is an immersive audio experience that puts listeners “inside the song in a spatial way, revealing every detail of the music with unparalleled clarity and depth,” the Dolby Labs website reads.
Tracks on the EP include ‘Nomathemba (Mother of Hope)’, ‘Uthando’, ‘Ayikh’ Indaw’ Enjengekhaya’ and ‘Wawukhona Yini E New York’. The last two songs were reworked by German producer Henrik Schwarz as part of the Gallo Remixed project.
Ikhaya Nothando also forms part of the Gallo’s efforts to bring South Africa’s music legacy into the digital age. It is a legacy that Apple Music has mined this Heritage Month on Amaqhawe, a hub featuring some of South Africa’s greatest hits.
“The handiwork of South Africa’s biggest most impactful musical icons is woven into the fabric of South African culture, and each sonic thread draws connections between our heritage and our future. Whether political or personal, contemplative or celebratory, with each of these tracks, South Africa’s musical heroes capture the country’s unique spirit and its diversity,” Apple Music said.
