SA: Listen to K.O’s new single Y.O.U.
South African rapper K.O has released a new single titled ‘Y.O.U.’, which is now available for streaming and download.
‘Y.O.U’ captures the essence of love and celebrates it in a vibrant and soulful way ahead of Valentine’s Day on 14 February. The ode to love is influenced by South African classics, making it especially alluring for older audiences but without losing its appeal to younger generations.
“I drew a lot from old SA Afropop/jazz classics by Hugh Masekela, Jabu Khanyile, Robbie Malinga and the likes,” K.O said. “I’ve grown to grasp why those old classics were so impactful. Much like those guys, I’m not a singer per se but their carefree melodic performances on songs is testament to true SA temperament and culture. ‘Y.O.U’ is my way of paying homage to them and taking a page from their genius.”
Born Ntokozo Mdluli in 1980, K.O began his career as a member of hip hop crew Teargas. He then pursued a solo career and released his debut album Skhanda Republic (2014), which debuted at No 1 and went platinum in South Africa. His second album Skhanda Republic 2 (2017) was released via Sony Music Entertainment Africa, while SR3 (2022) also reached platinum status.
