SA: Moshito conference welcomes All Africa Music Awards
The All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) is set to feature at the 2017 Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition, which will take place from 6 to 9 September at the New Music Factory in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The awards' body associate producer, Adenrele Niyi, will be speaking at the plenary session under the theme Scooping that Award: the Art of Hustle. Niyi's talk will be targeted at music executives, producers and performers and sheds light on factors separating award winners from other artists.
In an official statement, Moshito chairperson Dr Sipho Sithole said the South African event would bring together industry professionals from more than 16 international markets to collaborate and have a conversation about the structure and systems of the music industry in Africa.
"We can't be more hyped about the opportunity for knowledge sharing and networking as presented on the conference platform," Niyi said . "But more importantly, the internal revolution conversations like these stir as aftermath for Africa's music and culture landscape are the real gains. In AFRIMA we subscribe to an open flow of dialogue among every stakeholder: the creators, the market, the policymakers and trend determinants."
AFRIMA joins a list of delegates including Uganda's Doa Doa Music Market, the Zanzibar Film Festival (Tanzania), Kenya's ONGEA!, Musica Minas (Brazil), Morocco's Visa for Music and the Atlantic Music Expo from Cape Verde.
Moshito 2017 will open with a gala night and concert. Two days of conferencing and exhibition will follow. The event will also see the Rhythm of the Ancients concert at the Soweto Theatre, and other showcases throughout the conference with musical performances headlined by percussionist Dizu Plaatjees, an AFRIMA 2016 nominee, and house singer Candy Mokwena.
The All Africa Music Awards, which is held in partnership with the African Union Commission, will take place in Nigeria from 9 to 12 November. The nominees were announced recently.
