SA musician launches music gear marketplace
South African musician and entrepreneur Wian Oberholzer last week launched a subscription-based online music marketplace called The Bassment.
The website allows users to either buy or sell music gear including drums, guitars, pedals, and sound and DJ equipment.
The marketplace works on a subscription basis to eliminate risk between buyers and sellers characteristic of free e-commerce sites such as Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree.
Users can choose from three membership plans, which all offer unrestricted access with no transaction fees involved. The subscription plans available include one month (R9.99), three months (R49.99) and the one-year premium plan (R99.99). The platform also offers a three-day trial for new subscribers.
Once a plan is selected, users are asked to choose a category and add photos and all relevant details. After a 24-hour approval process, which includes assistance in ad-specific creation for more exposure and to ensure that certain standards are met, the listing will go live on The Bassment’s website.
Additionally, the marketplace has a direct chat forum for musicians to talk about anything from music teacher recommendations to where to find the best guitar strings.
“We are committed to creating a secure platform to assist all musicians in this process,” the company says. “Whether it is to sell something, fund a new project or for someone looking to start their musical career, we want to be there every step of the process and be as transparent as possible.
“No matter your age, finding the right gear to get you started on your musical journey can be tricky and expensive. That is why we created The Bassment –to make it easier and secure for you.”
The website claims to be South Africa’s first dedicated online music marketplace.
