SA: Nandi Madida to host 2022 SAMAs
South African singer, model and television presenter Nandi Madida will host the 2022 edition of the South African Music Awards at the Sun City Superbowl in Rustenburg on 28 August.
“When I accepted my first SAMA in 2020 for my collaboration with K.O, ‘Say U Will’, I would not have imagined that I would be hosting the awards just two years later,” Nandi Madida said.
“I am humbled to have been trusted with this honour and look forward to bringing unforgettable moments to the #SAMA28 stage alongside my co-hosts.”
The awards ceremony, which will broadcast live on SABC 1, will see more than 30 accolades being presented to artists in different categories, including TECNO Record of the Year, TECNO Music Video of the Year and SAMPRA Artist of the Year. Public voting is still underway in the mentioned categories with voting lines expected to close at 9pm on 28 August.
Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said: “With just under two weeks until the main event, we are working tirelessly to put together a world-class celebration of musical excellence during Women’s Month.
“We are particularly excited that the charismatic Nandi Madida heeded our call to host #SAMA28. She is an example of the bold, compelling, and immensely talented women we wish to acknowledge, uplift, and empower. We hope that fans are buying their tickets so they can join us for this spectacular calendar event.”
According to the organisers, more hosts will be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, Zakes Bantwini is this year’s most nominated artist with seven nods. Other artists with multiple nominations include DJ Maphorisa, De Mthuda, Mobi Dixon, Msaki, Brian Temba, Sun-El Musician, Chymamusique, Khanyisile Mthetwa and Kabza De Small.
The SAMAs are organised by RiSA and sponsored by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, South African Music Performance Rights Association, Composers, Authors and Publishers Association, White Star, TECNO mobile, Southern African Music Rights Organisation, RAV, SABC Radio, TikTok, DRIP and SABC 1.
