SA producer and musician Robbie Malinga passes on
Veteran South African record producer and musician Robbie Malinga has succumbed to anaemia on Christmas Day. He was 47.
Details around his death are unclear at this stage but his manager Sipho Dube has confirmed to TshisaLIVE that the legendary musician died in the afternoon.
Musicians have taken to social media to pay tribute to him.
"Sad news indeed, few days ago we lost Arnold Mabunda today our brother Robbie Malinga RIP. We will always love you," tweeted Yvonne Chaka Chaka.
"Legend down. Sad day for South African music. Go well Aya Rob," said Naak Musiq.
Malinga was one of the most sought-after record producers in South Africa, with a career spanning over two decades. He had recently released a self-titled album in November.
South Africa's minister for Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa wrote on Twitter: "We're heartbroken to learn the news of the untimely passing of legendary Kwaito & Afro Pop producer, Robbie Malinga. We have lost an illustrious Kwaito pioneer who paved the way for future generations of artists. We send our deepest sympathies to his loved ones."
