SA rapper 25K inks Sony deal, drops new single
South African rapper 25K has signed a recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment Africa. The deal coincides with the release of the title track off his upcoming album Pheli Makaveli. The song is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
“After months of teasing my debut album Pheli Makaveli, curated by Zoocci Coke Dope, I am excited to announce my partnership with Sony Music Entertainment Africa. It’s always good,” 25K said.
Sony Music Entertainment South Africa head of hip hop and R&B DJ Sliqe said: “25K is a great addition to the hip hop roster at Sony Music. He brings hope, edge, community, truth and love to the stable.
“I’m glad we are on his side and a part of his history. Hip hop has evolved over the years and we are all getting a front seat to the ‘Pheli Makaveli’ show. South Africans all over the country will grow to love the raw and storytelling trap star 25K.”
Born Lehlohonolo Molefe, 25K broke into the music industry in 2017 as a finalist of the Homecoming Events’ Artist on the Rise talent search. In 2019, he released the ‘Culture Vulture’ single, which got the attention of artists like DJ Maphorisa, Cassper Nyovest and AKA, who remixed the song alongside Emtee. The remix earned 25K the Best Remix Award at the 2019 South African Hip Hop Awards. The artist has shared the stage with Sho Madjozi, TKZee and Harrison Crump, among others.
