SA: Rapper K.O releases new single Emoyeni

The track was released ahead of his upcoming album Skhanda Republic 3 set to drop later in the year. It follows the successful release of hit singles ‘K:hova’ and ‘Playback’ last year.

The mid-tempo song speaks about choosing to focus on the good vibes and ignoring the negativity. K.O says ‘Emoyeni’ aims to uplift people through tough times. 

“This song is a hustler’s prayer and is very near to my heart,” he said. “I’m basically pleading with God to spare me because I still have so much that I need to do. The year [2022] has been hard on the hip hop community, and it’s hard not to be conscious of how heavy the energy is around all of us. ‘Emoyeni’ is also a reminder that, even in trying times, we should not be ruled by fear and take a moment to celebrate.” 

The song is accompanied by a music video directed by The Islanders. The video opens with an astronaut who finds himself intrigued by the celebrations taking place on earth. It beautifully captures the good vibes at South African parties and the message of the song as K.O drives through the neighbourhood like the good old days of ‘Caracara’.

K.O is among the top rappers continuously shaping the hip hop scene in South Africa. With a career spanning almost two decades, the ‘Supa Dupa’ hitmaker is responsible for putting the Teargas crew in the spotlight with such albums as K’shubile K’bovu, Wafa Wafa, Dark or Blue and Num8er Num8er.
