SAMAs 2019: All the nominees
Black Coffee received the most South African Music Awards (SAMAs) nominations during a ceremony held at Alberton Civic Centre in Johannesburg on 25 April.
The internationally acclaimed DJ has been nominated in the Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and Best Dance Album categories, and twice for the Collaboration of the Year Award.
Sjava, Zonke, Sho Madjozi and Sun-El Musician received four nominations each, while Nasty C and Vusi Nova both received three nods.
East Africa is represented by Diamond Platnumz who received a nomination in the Rest of Africa Artist Award category for his A Boy From Tandale album. Other nominees in the category include the late Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Kommanda Obbs (Lesotho), Mr Eazi (Nigeria) and Nixon (Zimbabwe).
This year’s edition runs under the hashtag #recognise. “We recognise that this 25th anniversary moment is bigger than any single artist, genre, award or song,” the SAMAs said.
“We recognise that we are here because of all that has gone before: the artists, the genres, the story of our democracy, the soundtracks of our lives, the power of the moment where we stand right now and the possibility of where we are going.”
The 25th edition of the awards will take place at Sun City near Rustenburg on 31 May and 1 June. The SABC will broadcast the awards ceremony and a recording of the awards will be available online after the event on www.mymuze.com.
