Sarkodie’s Mary for September release
Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie is set to release his fourth album later this year. The album, named Mary for his grandmother, has a release date of September 12, 2015.
According to tweets from the rapper’s twitter handle, ‘Mary Album drops on Granny’s birthday people. 12th September.’
Expected to contain live instrumentals only, Mary is a 14-track compilation. The single ‘New Guy’ featuring US rapper Ace Hood appears to have been dropped from the forthcoming album going by a track list available online. However, the single ‘Mewu’ with singer-songwriter Akwaboah makes the cut.
As promotion for Mary, a different single will be released before the release date. According to a tweet from the Tema, Ghana rapper: ‘But till then another single will drop. #Mewu trending now and wanna thank all TV and radio stations. Catch me doing some media soon.’
Guests on the album include Efya, Mugeez of R2Bees and Obrafour, all well-known voices on Ghana’s contemporary scene. Mary will also feature a perhaps unexpected collaboration with highlife great Pat Thomas, who himself has only just released an album with live orchestration after a hiatus.
Sarkodie’s debut Makye was released in 2009; Rapperholic, his sophomore, came out in 2012. The 30-track heavy Sarkology came out in 2013.
